Jamaica Badminton Academy Shuttle Showdown 2025
The Jamaica Badminton Academy (JBA) is committed to developing world-class athletes and growing the sport of badminton across the island through structured training, mentorship, and competitive exposure.
ND Communications first partnered with JBA for the inaugural staging of Shuttle Showdown. Following the success of year one, the Academy returned to us for the second staging, with a clear mandate: scale the tournament, strengthen commercial support, and improve visibility and turnout across the board.
The challenge
For Shuttle Showdown 2025, JBA aimed to:
- Attract new sponsors while strengthening relationships with existing partners
- Maximize media visibility across traditional and digital platforms
- Increase participant and attendee turnout from the previous year
- Secure broad national coverage and strong sports-community awareness
our strategy
Building on year one insights, we refined and expanded the campaign to deliver stronger results in year two.
1. Sponsorship Acquisition & Partnership Growth
We retained key returning sponsors from the first staging, including:
Zalco Distributors, Lifespan Spring Water, Haven Beauty House, and Chas E. Ramson.
We also secured new sponsors for the second staging, including: Degree, Excelsior, Princess Hotels, World Brands Services, and Mothers.
2. Media Relations & National Coverage
With relationships established from the first staging—and a wider national outreach plan—we secured 15+ interviews and media features across print, online, radio, and television.
- Print & Online: Yardie Sports, Jamaica Observer, Star, Gleaner, Jamaica Social, 876 Stream
- Radio: Power 106 FM, IRIE FM, Love 101 FM, Nationwide News Network
- Television: TVJ Weekend Smile, CVM @ Sunrise, CVM Fan Central
3. Public Relations & Event Promotion
We curated press releases and coordinated the event’s messaging to support consistent promotion, strong media pickup, and increased public interest leading into tournament day.
4. Media Launch Event (First-Ever for the Academy)
To strengthen visibility and stakeholder alignment ahead of tournament day, ND Communications planned and executed JBA’s first dedicated media launch for Shuttle Showdown. We brought together media, players, sponsors, and key stakeholders in one space to officially kick-start the tournament campaign, announce key updates, and create a structured opportunity for interviews, photo moments, and clearer sponsor recognition setting a new benchmark for how the Academy promotes its flagship events going forward.
The Outcome
By managing both the first and second staging of Shuttle Showdown, ND Communications helped the Jamaica Badminton Academy to build momentum year-over-year, improve campaign execution, and deepen the tournament’s visibility and sponsor appeal while continuing to spotlight badminton as a growing sport in Jamaica. Specifically, we garnered:
- More sponsorship support: returning sponsors recommitted, and new sponsors came on board
- Stronger turnout: increased participation and attendance versus the previous year
- Expanded visibility: multiple media features and broadcast coverage, strengthening national awareness
- A stronger flagship event: Shuttle Showdown continues to grow into a key tournament on the local badminton calendar
